Why choose nose surgery?

Having a large or misshaped nose is an issue for quite a large proportion of people. Being the central feature of the face, it can hard to disguise with hairstyles or makeup making us even more self-conscious.

What is nose surgery?

Nose correction, also called a rhinoplasty or “nose job” is a surgical procedure that reshapes the cartilage in the nose to give a more appealing shape that is in harmony with the rest of your features.

What can I expect in the initial consultation?

At your consultation, you can fully discuss the look you are trying to achieve. It can sometimes be useful to bring pictures from magazines or newspapers to communicate your desired look to the Surgeon. There are a number of different options available depending on your existing nose and the look you are trying to achieve. After a full assessment of your facial features and your desired results, we will make personalized recommendations for you.

Nose correction – what the procedure involves

Rhinoplasty surgery is performed in an operating theatre, normally under general anaesthetic. The surgery normally takes between one and two hours depending on the amount of reshaping required. The Surgeon will trim both cartilage and bone to create a smaller and smoother nose line that complements the rest of your face. In the vast majority of cases, only internal incisions are made to avoid scarring to the facial skin.

What can I expect after the surgery?

Following your nose job surgery, the Surgeon will place a splint on the nose and insert nose plugs in the nostrils. These measures help with the healing process and serve to keep the nose and cartilage straight in the immediate aftermath of your procedure. The nose plugs will be removed the following day, whilst the splint will remain in place for a week. Most clients stay in the hospital for one night following surgery for observation to aid your recuperation after general anaesthetic.
Your nose will remain slightly swollen for about three months after your surgery. For this reason, the final shape of your new nose will not be visible until such time. You can normally return to work after 10-14 days (depending on the nature of your job) and gradually return to your full activities and exercise over the following six weeks. We advise you to avoid excessive direct sunlight and any activities that may risk damage to your nose, for example playing tennis or netball, for the first few months following surgery.
